The red rock crab is usually closer to shore and easier to catch than its Dungeness cousin. Its a bit smaller and much harder to crack. The meat is also sweet and very appetizing itself eating oysters and clams as well as food washing down to the salt water from fresh water creeks and rivers. The red rock crab prefers a rocky habitat like Bamfield harbour and San Mateo. The black volcanic rocks on shorelines are a good hint that Red Rock Crab is near.
