Great conditions made for a great charter and it wasn’t long before this group was alternately reeling in a fish and then netting one. Sockeye fishing is particularly hot this year and limits are taken daily. The heated waters approaching Port Alberni have stacked up the sockeye waiting for rain and cooler temperature, which triggers their instinct to head up river.
We usually look for temperatures approaching 50F and our waters at Harbour Quay are now over 70F.
The fish were dispatched with our German fisherman’s friend tool. We’ve been looking for a while for this kind of tool and finally found one. Our new 10-foot nets helped tremendously with netting off the back of the boat.
