Why Go On A Winter Fishing Charter?
We think that winter is hands-down the best time of year for fishing in BC. This is the time when the waters of Barkley Sound are the clearest and cleanest and the seafood is the most plentiful.
Fishing For Winter Springs
Chinook Salmon are active all year in Barkley Sound but in the winter months they are also known as Winter Springs. Winter Springs is a name given to them to denote the difference between these delightful winter salmon and their fair-weather friends. Winter springs are simply among the most delicious BC salmon I have ever tasted and highly sought-after in this season.
Possible Itinerary for Your BC Winter Fishing Charter
Day 1
- Arrive at noon at the Harbour Quay in Port Alberni
- Head out to Barkley Sound for our first day of fishing and adventure
- At sunset, drop anchor in a protected cove
- Throw some traps for night crabbing, enjoy the peaceful sounds of the coast at night
Day 2
- At sunrise, embark on a full day of fishing for winter springs (Chinook)
- Stop in Robber’s Passage for some oyster picking
- Find a spot in a protected cove and anchor for the night
- Go ashore for a beach fire (weather-permitting)
- Enjoy the moon and the stars and the sound of sea lions barking
Day 3
- At sunrise, head out for our third day of fishing
- Fire up the charcoal grill for a seafood BBQ
- Make our way back down the inlet and arrive in Port Alberni before Sunset where we can arrange to have your catch packed for travel
