John and Richard took time out for Vancouver Island saltwater fishing with a sleepover on the boat. We headed out of Port Alberni for the halibut grounds off Folger Island. Sockeye are already in the Alberni Inlet, but the chinook and the halibut are on the shelves bordering the surf line. The closer to the surfline, the bigger the seas, and the rough waters kept us away from the trophy fishing. Good thing sheltered waters are close by, and we caught quite a haul of prawns, yellow eye, China Rock Fish, Quilback, and “baby halibut” flounder. John baked some turnovers – we even had a rhubarb pie in the oven – almost forgot the blue hue lingcod that was hoisted too. Its so nice to have the sheltered waters in Barkley Sound to fish comfortably from.
