The chum is pound-for-pound the undisputed fighter of the salmon species. Chum migrations are the last of the season as well. Chum salmon, also known as dog salmon have a life cycle of 4 years, spawning from November to January. They spawn in inter-tidal zones and small streams, laying over 4000 eggs.
The average chum is 10 to 22 lbs and around 24 inches in length. A distinctive feature is the large black eye.
