The Broken Group consists of about one hundred islands in the Pacific Rim National Park, a designated wildlife sanctuary. These islands take up about one quarter of the area of the Barkley Sound and are popular with adventurers of all kinds. The small islands contain many shallow lagoons which warm up and attract lots of marine life. Sandy beaches, virgin old growth forests and limestone caves offer a surreal glimpse into the prehistoric past. Camping in the Broken Group requires a Park Use Permit.
Ground fish and rock fish are protected species in this area but it’s okay to fish salmon here. The southern edges of the Broken Group are especially good halibut grounds that we like to visit. Sail Rock is another favorite.
