China Creek is the undisputed sockeye capital of West Vancouver Island. Wall-to-wall bumper boats when the sockeye are in. From June 21 till the beginning of August, fishermen come to China Creek for the Sockeye. One year there is a federal inquiry into where the Fraser River sockeye went, and the next year we are having record sockeye migrations. China Creek is about a half hour drive from Port Alberni, down the Alberni Inlet towards West Vancouver Island and the Pacific Ocean. China Creek Marina is a spacious marina with world-class fish cleaning facilities.
We come to China Creek after the third week in June for the reddest, leanest of the salmon species. Smoked sockeye is a mouthwatering treat.
One big advantage to fishing at China Creek is the protected waters. These safe waters make for an enjoyable outing with all of your family, old and young. No danger of motion sickness symptoms here, so you have the pleasure of sharing the adventure with your entire group without leaving anyone behind.
