Cape Beale

View of Cape Beale from the ocean

Cape Beale is the entrance to the Pacific, a few miles south of Bamfield. This is where the colder salty ocean begins at the surf line. The beauty of Cape Beale is astounding. It’s a short distance to the Bamfield Coast Guard station and the Marine Science Centre and to the sheltered waters of Barkley Sound.

Most species can be found here. Humpbacks, orcas, basking sharks, sea lions, seals, and birds of all kinds favour this habitat.  So do lingcod, salmon, octopus and halibut!

Historically, its rugged and natural coastline claimed many vessels which lead to the establishment of the Cape Beale lighthouse in 1874. It is staffed to this day.
